Should I stay, or should I go??
Umm Go! Absolutely!
You want to take a trip, and you have a place in mind that you really want to see, but your best buddy doesn’t have the same desire as you. Do you still take the trip? Absolutely, you do!
Music group, TLC sang, “What about your frieeends?” I say “What about them?” They will be there, when you get back! So don’t let them be the reason you don’t take a trip and have your adventure!
You may be thinking “But my friend(s) won’t be there, so it won’t be as fun.” That may be the case in some instances, but in general, it is more fun to travel solo, than it is with people you already know. So many more opportunities to meet new people, and have great experiences that you would not have had, had you traveled with someone. So go on! Get out of your comfort zone!
Do What You Want
When you travel solo, you are able to do exactly what you want. This applies to many things like, where to go, what to spend, how to get there, what to do, and what attractions to visit. Those are a lot of aspects to consider, and it is simplified, greatly, if you only have your ideas to accommodate!
If you have a limited amount of time, and a lengthy list of activities you want to do, and sights you want to see, it could be hard to accomplish if a travel partner has a list that is just as lengthy but the complete opposite of what you want. Traveling solo makes this a non-issue.
Tastes can vary, especially when it comes to lodging accommodations. Friend A will accept nothing less than a four-star hotel, while Friend B would prefer to stay in a hostel. Fortunately, they can each travel solo, and have their respective vacations, without compromise! Friend A won’t feel like they are lowering their standards, and Friend B won’t experience unnecessary strain on their travel budget. Problem solved. Friendship unscathed :-)
Make New Friends
This is perhaps my most favorite reason for traveling solo – the opportunity to meet and interact with new people!
Traveling solo allows you the chance to meet other travelers and locals, alike. Being solo in certain situations, forces you to interact with those around you, more so, than if you had your friend(s) there, blocking you from the rest of the world.
For instance, you are traveling solo and need a little assistance taking the city bus to a local destination. You ask one of the locals for directions, they explain, and instead of them going about their business, because you are already more than one person, they may offer to accompany you, and show you how to get there. You make your way, now, with your newly appointed local-guide, strike up a conversation, and your experience has been enriched that much more! Had you not been solo, you would have missed the opportunity to meet someone new, and perhaps, miss insightful perspectives about the city you are visiting.
Go it Alone!
Those are just a couple of reasons why traveling solo, is so great. There are a lot of fun experiences, interesting insights, and random moments I would have missed, had I waited for someone else to be on-board with my travel idea, and that would have been a pity…
So... Do you have a destination desire that's been tugging at you for the longest? Go ahead and make it happen it, and go it alone!!
