So the guys in Brazil, have the ability to make it pretty clear that they are attracted to you -- either with words or actions, or both. There are situations where after a two-minute introductory conversation, the guy will cut right to the chase and just go in for the kiss. Or, there are times where they will at least state that “they have the will” to kiss you, and you can either approve or refuse. But not all kisses are meant to express a desire for just the physical – there are impromptu kisses that don't venture into the realm of “time to get some”. Sometimes, a kiss was something to experience in that situation… And that's all!
| Additionally, there seems to be a lack of inhibition when it comes to kissing or demonstrating affection. I see it walking to the bus stop, at the bus stop, on the bus…Hmm, I’m noticing a pattern! I see it in restaurants of course, beaches, and pretty much anywhere people are, you can be sure that there is a couple enjoying each other’s company and exchanging saliva. As off-putting as the prevalence of the slob-fests may be, I can’t help but admire how they are able to tune-out their surroundings, and really just focus-in on each other, and the opportunity. So I think to myself: “Must be nice…”
Well one night after a samba jam, I am talking to this guy after his long, persistent stares. After several minutes, he states that he has “the will” to kiss me. I laugh to myself, thinking “I’ve never heard it put that way, before, in English. How fun!” Anyway, the conversation is light, so I refuse, and there is no issue, and we continue talking. By now he knows I am not from here, and I am wondering if he and the other guys do this with the local girls, or is this just something that they are empowered to do with travelers, under the presumption that the time to be spent together is limited, so we need to take advantage of this moment...right now! So I ask him, if he and the others demand kisses from the local girls, and he says “Yes, absolutely!”
Okay, fair enough.
So a couple weeks later his claim was confirmed, that strangers kiss strangers.
I attended a different Samba Jam, where there was this lady who I presumed to be there un-attached. She was there making her way through the crowd, enjoying the time, like everyone else, with no one at her side. After the Jam, however, I observed a guy speaking with said lady. They got a little closer, then minutes later, I look over, and they are fully-engaged in this...this kiss...more like a "combining of faces". According to them, at that moment, I don’t think anyone else was around!
Most would have assumed that this was the prelude of what was yet to come. These two were going to leave together, and some more “magic” was going to happen…
But it didn't. After I left the area, I saw the same lady leaving with a girlfriend, and he was nowhere in sight.
So I surmised that maybe people really do just share kisses just for the sake of it. Or maybe she, herself, was put-off by having her cheek licked, and that was the deal-breaker...
Tough luck, pal.
